“You are what you eat.” ~ Unknown
Fad diets and nutrition trends may come and go, but one thing we can all agree on is if you want to be healthy, you should eat healthily.
It’s not only our health that relies on proper nutrition, our skin health and radiance depend on it too!
The truth is, no amount of skin care products can supplement what you may be lacking on the inside, making proper nutrition the #1 place to start your skin care Journey!
Nutrition As Skin Care
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and a proven way to keep your organs healthy is with good nutrition and hydration.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and are healing for your whole body and your skin. Antioxidants and Vitamins such as C, E, and A (found in fruits and vegetables) can prevent free radicals that damage skin and can slow down aging.
So, before investing in countless products to mask your skin care concerns, evaluate your nutrition intake and whether you’re getting enough of the right nutrients your skin needs.
Our Go-To Green Juice Recipe
Green juices are a great way to get lots of fresh, organic greens to replenish and detoxify your body from the inside-out! Green juices improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and boost immunity. They’re a great way to give your body the boost it needs and in turn, improve your skin health leaving you with a healthy and vibrant glow!
Here’s what you’ll need for our favorite green juice:
- Lettuce, spinach, or other fresh leafy greens
- Optional apple to sweeten
To properly wash and sanitize the vegetables, leave them to soak in a bowl of water and vinegar. Cold-pressed slow juicers are great because they preserve essential nutrients in the vegetables during the juicing process.
Supplementing Collagen In Your Diet
Another important aspect of nutrition when it comes to Pro-Aging skin care is collagen. Collagen is the protein that gives skin its structure, suppleness, and stretch. It’s a protein that naturally decreases in production as we age. In addition, external factors such as sunlight, smoking, sugar, and a poor diet also decrease collagen production.
The big problem with collagen is that your skin cannot absorb it topically, because its molecules are too large…
But there’s a solution — NUTRITION!
Nutrition is the key to almost any skin care concern, collagen included! As we age, our body produces less collagen. This results in a loss of elasticity in the skin which allows wrinkles and sagginess to appear. But apart from our natural aging process, the reason people don’t get enough collagen is that it’s not in our nutrition regimen, especially in the west.
While getting nutrients from fresh, organic foods is always best, the truth is, most of us are not giving our body enough of the proper and versatile nutrients we were meant to have. This is where a proper collagen supplement can help restore the elasticity in your skin and help you regain your youthful appearance!
Amino acids combined with proper vitamins and minerals are how your body produces collagen. If you’re not getting these through your nutrients, your body doesn’t have what it needs to boost collagen production.
As you age, however, your body may no longer absorb nutrients as well, or integrate them as efficiently, resulting in less collagen production. To get the nutrients you need to regain collagen, you may need a collagen supplement.
